The Smithereens are an American rock band from Carteret, New Jersey, United States. The group formed in 1980 with members Pat DiNizio (vocals & guitar), Jim Babjak (guitar & vocals), Mike Mesaros (bass guitar & vocals), and Dennis Diken (drums & percussion). This original lineup continued until 2006, when Mesaros left the band and Severo Jornacion took over on bass guitar.

The band is perhaps best known for a string of modest hits in the late 1980s and early 1990s, including “Only a Memory”, “A Girl Like You”, and “Too Much Passion”. The Smithereens have collaborated with numerous musicians, both in the studio (Belinda Carlisle, Julian Lennon, Lou Reed, Suzanne Vega) and live (Graham Parker and The Kinks).

Mr Onesti, I have seen concerts at ARCADA in St Charles, and I myself am an aging POWER POP GUITARIST from the MILWAUKEE AREA.
I am a good friend of Jimmy Babjak, and Pat DiNizio was a PAL. I’m going to be there, and it’s my 27th wedding anniversary. My wife loves Jimmy, and still puts up with me. I’ve known OFF BROADWAY for over 30 years. Cliff, Rob, Mike Gorman and Kenny Harck. And I think Mike Redmon is still slugggging his HAMER. Tell me it’s a deal and that I’ll see 2 of my favorite bands on mine and Karen’s anniversary!!!!!!

Hi Mike! Unfortunately, Off Broadway will not be opening for the Smithereens, but it will be a great show nonetheless!

Hey Ron, so great that there is another live music venue in Evanston. I work downtown Evanston and it is needed. Beautiful job on the remodel, just went in there today for the first time. I host the Power Pop Shoppe radio show on WNUR for years and put on shows in the area and know a lot of great musicians. I put together a Smithereens tribute show for Pat last March, also for Tommy Keene and I had great local talent playing the songs of both artists, plan to do it again next spring. I also own an indie record label and been involved in the music business on the side here for twenty years. I also am a big Off Broadway fan. However I know a couple of terrific power pop bands that would be the perfect vibe for an opening band for the Smithereens with Marshall Crenshaw show and I know they would love to do it if you guys have any interest.
